There are many things to think about before buying a new LCD TV. People looking for an LCD are either looking to upgrade an older version LCD or replacing an old bulky set. Each type of person should be aware that LCD TVs upgrade faster than you can buy them.
What should you look for in an LCD? So much of what you hear you may not understand, like pixel resolution or scaling. Understanding the lingo can be confusing. An LCD TV is probably one of the most expensive accessories for your house you will buy. This is why it’s so important to be an educated consumer. I am about to explain what you need to look for in an 40 LCD TV without the confusing jargon. We are not all engineers! Most importantly, you want to get the highest quality for the best price; and that’s why I’m here, to teach you how to choose an LCD TV.

There are six factors you need to look for, the following describes them along with simple specifications you need to look for:

Pixel Count: the higher the number, the better the picture. You want to buy at least 1080p resolution if you can afford it.

Motion Response: the screen’s ability to show fast moving objects (not a big problem anymore). You want higher than 8ms.

Contrast: is the definitions between colors. Should be a minimum of 1500 to 1.

Brightness: Ability to see the TV regardless of exterior lighting. 550 cd/ms or better.

Viewing Angle: this used to be a problem with Flat Panel TVs. It was to make sure that the screen could be seen from any angle.

Inputs/Outputs: something you want a lot of, specifically for HDMI and VGA to connect your computer to your LCD TV.

The newer LCD TVs all have this criteria. Check sale items to make sure that they too meet these criteria. It is common for big sales to be offered on LCDs that are on the way out. Above all, make sure you trust the opinion of those talking to you about any specific 40 LCD TV. When buying online you don’t get to actually see the LCD, make sure to read the reviews from more than once source. If this is not enough, visit a local retailer to see exactly what it is you are ordering online. If you take all this into consideration, you will always buy the right LCD.
